Hawaii for the Holidays: How to Get in the Spirit

“Mele Kalikimaka is the thing to say on a bright Hawaiian Christmas day.” -Bing Crosby

If you’re singing, “I’m dreaming of a warm Christmas,” rather than a “white Christmas,” you may be in need of a Hawaiian holiday. Hawaii is a place for gathering friends and family while making lasting memories, so why not spend the holiday season on a beach somewhere tropical? Before you hop on a plane to Hawaii for the holidays, make sure you’re prepared. Here’s a complimentary Vacation Guide to help you create a Christmas list full of activities, restaurants, and attractions to cross off.

How is the Weather in Hawaii For the Holidays?

While packing for your vacation, you may be torn between outfits. Do you pack your ugly Christmas sweater or your swimsuit? Our best advice would be to pack your red and green swimsuit. The weather in Hawaii stays warm year-round, and you can still expect a white Christmas (of sand, that is!)

Where to See Christmas Lights in Hawaii

Friends of Honolulu City Lights
For an extravagant display of twinkling lights, a variety of fantastic food vendors, a glorious tree lighting ceremony, and photos with Santa, head over to the Friends of Honolulu City Lights opening night on Oahu.

After the mayor lights the tree, the party continues down the street with the Public Workers’ Electric Lights Parade. It has all the Christmas spirit you could ever want, all packaged into one night. However, if you only want to check out the Christmas lights display and Christmas tree, the display is accessible for a full month. Don’t forget to take a photo with the 21-foot-tall Shaka Santa for the ultimate Hawaiian Christmas photo!

Where to Eat on Christmas Eve

Where to Eat on Christmas Eve

Even though you aren’t at home to cook a special Christmas meal, you can still indulge with your family in Hawaii. There are several fantastic dining spots in Waikiki on Oahu, where you can enjoy Christmas Eve buffets, brunches, and luaus!

Eat local and experience traditional Hawaiian cuisine at Diamond Head Luau. Get a taste of local farm-to-table dishes and take part in interactive activities and traditions, including hula lessons, lei making, and ukulele lessons.

Then, check out the local marine life in the Waikiki Aquarium, which is available for luau guests!

New Year’s Eve in Hawaii

Waikiki in Honolulu puts on a spectacular New Year’s Eve fireworks show, and you can get the perfect view from the Fireworks Cruise with Atlantis Adventures. Enjoy an elegant meal and complimentary bubbly and party favors! They do a Thanksgiving Cruise and Christmas Cruise, too, if you plan to visit in November or earlier in December!
