Where to Find the Best Volcano Tour on the Big Island

If you’ve come to Hawaii, you must see the volcanoes. Nowhere else in the world can you witness something so majestic. There are many ways to see the volcanoes, so we’ve highlighted a few of our favorites! Before scheduling a tour, we recommend checking with the National Parks Service to make sure the volcano is still accessible. Occasionally, the areas around the volcanoes are closed due to increased activity.

1. Wasabi Tours Hawaii

One of our favorite touring companies, Wasabi Tours Hawaii consistently ranks at the top of the list. Their Big Island Twilight Volcano Tour is a twelve-hour excursion. Small groups are escorted through Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. During the tour, you’ll discover sea turtles, incredibly beautiful rainforests, and of course, the foreboding Mauna Loa volcano. Weather permitting, the tour will end after sundown to allow viewing of the lava’s glow. The tour includes a gourmet lunch and dinner, entrance into all the parks, and easy hiking. Be sure to visit the website for an $80 off coupon per couple. Tours are $195 plus tax per adult; $175 plus tax for kids.

2. Paradise Helicopter Tours

If you’re looking for a fun and memorable way to see the Big Island, Paradise Helicopter Tours has exactly that. Offering ten different tours, Paradise specializes in lava and volcano viewing. Strap into the helicopter and prepare to get a bird’s eye view of some of the most spectacular sights on Earth. The pilots are very knowledgeable about Hawaii and the volcanoes and will answer any of your questions. Paradise Tours has coupons on their site, so be sure to check those out as well. Tours run anywhere from $189 to $779 per person, and there’s a few tours that charge by the aircraft.

3. Marylou’s Big Island Guided Tours

Are you looking for a more intimate tour setting? Marylou’s Big Island Guided Tours provides excursions for small, private groups of up to six people. They also specialize in custom tours if you have something in particular you’d like to see. They have a full list of options and are always open to new ideas. Plan on spending about eight to ten hours on your tour. Prices are $500 for one to four passengers and $600 for five to six passengers during the day. A Glow Tour, where you can see the volcano and lava flowing at night, is $650 for one to four passenger and $750 for five to six people. Tour prices include all National and State park fees as well as drinks and snacks.

4. C Big Island Tours

Offering exclusive tours by both land and sea, C Big Island Tours is a great place to find the unexpected! Their Lava Boat Tour is one of the most popular options. Climb aboard the maximum six-passenger boat and experience the action as lava flows from the active volcanoes into the ocean. Each seat on the boat is able to fully swivel, so you can see what’s happening from all angles. C Big Island Tours has both day and dusk boat tours. Plan on spending around two to two-and-a-half hours on the ship. Tours cost $195 per passenger and sell out quickly, so be sure to book your excursion early!
